The best fishing spots

The Black Marlin (Makaira Indica of the order Perciformes), living in the surface waters of the Indian and Pacific seas. One of the fastest fish in the world (50 miles per hour), M. Indica weighs about 750 kilometers (about 1,700 pounds), although larger samples have been caught. It is a highly sought after commercial fish. Black Marlin card offers a completely satisfying angling experience.

Makaira

Makaira, along with other genera of the order Perciformes, is on the Red List of seafood from Greenpeace. This is a list of commonly available fish that is very likely to come from unsustainable sources. For this reason, most modern anglers will return them to the sea once they have been captured and photographed. It is in the same family, the Istiophoridae, than the white and Hawaiian Japanese silver marlins.

Santiago

Santiago, the old fictional fisherman of Ernest Hemingway's novel (1899-1961), 'The Old Man and the Sea', had finally broken a line of bad luck for 84 days when he coupled a copy of this order. The rest of the novel tells of man's struggle with nature.

Colour

Strictly speaking, Makaira Indica is not black. It is dark blue and white. Only the stiff pectoral and posterior fins are black. It has a less rounded shape than its blue cousin, and its ventral flippers rarely exceed one foot long, no matter how big the fish. It prefers the warm coastal waters of the tropics and subtropics. On rare occasions it has been seen to cross the Atlantic through the Cape of the Good Hope in South Africa southwest of Brazil and northwest to the Lesser Antilles.

fishing trips

Some of the best charter fishing trips to M. Indica originate from the east coast of Australia. Nearly three-quarters of all marlin, weighing more than a ton, is trapped in a 150-mile stretch of the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Cairn. This is about twice the amount captured in Brazil, Portugal and Hawaii combined.

Deep Sea

The deep waters of the golden coast of Brisbane are places that anglers with light gear search for M. indica and other hunting species. Fans can search among others Mia Mia, Spanish mackerel and Wahoo. Jiggers or bottom anglers also come here to catch like Cobia, Kingfish, Peal Perch and Snapper.

Australia

More than twice the size of Sydney Harbor, Port Stephens, in the south-west of Australia, is a world-class center for sport fishing. With its impressive landscape, crystal clear water and golden and sandy beaches, it also attracts other tourists. Tours from here operate between January and April.
